The local CBS station interviewed a few children and their parents (including our good friends, Anissa and Peyton Mayhew) for a Thanksgiving piece. I tried to get Adelaine to tell her Knock Knock Joke, but alas she forgot. Click on this link and then on Video Story to view our Ladies. We had a great Thanksgiving at Grandmama’s and Grandaddy’s in Leesburg, GA. We all ate too much. The turkey nap kicked in for me immediately after our favorite Buccaneer, Mike Alstott, scored a Touchdown. I woke up and the game was over. I was glad to have had a good nap because the Bucs got beat 38-10! Growing up a Cub’s Fan I believe in the motto, “There’s always next year.”

We hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We certainly did. We look forward to having a relaxing Christmas also. Grandma Linda is coming here for a week, along with Grandmama and Grandaddy.

Thanksgiving 2006

Well, we have been in the Hospital for the last 6 days. Adelaine got sick last week. She couldn’t keep anything down, so Angela took her to the clinic and they admitted her to All Children’s Hospital. After a couple days of testing, the Doctors determined that she had a yeast infection in her throat. She had recently started a new round of Chemo along with steroids and an Antibiotic to ward off any “Germies” that would make her sick. The Antibiotic actually fueled the yeast in her throat and made her sick. A couple days after she was in the Hospital they determined that she now had a bacterial infection also. To combat the bacterial infection they had to give her MORE antibiotics and a medicine to counteract the antibiotics effect on the yeast. All this to offset the side effects of the Chemotherapy. That is why she is our Chemo Commando. We dedicated Bowen’s soccer team to her fight. We are the Southside Soccer Under-6 Commando’s.

We were supposed to go to the Tampa Bay Lightning vs. NY Islanders game Friday night at 8pm. The several groups sponsored over 4,000 tickets to the game for area cancer patients and their families. She was too sick to go and I had missed work the night before and I couldn’t miss 2 nights in a row. The Mayhews went and told us all about it. They actually used Brad Richards Luxury Box. Brad is the Captain of the team and he has purchased a box for use by Children with Cancer and their families. Richy’s Rascals is the name of his Foundation. The game went to overtime and then a shootout. The Lightning scored the only goal in the shootout for a thrilling victory. After the game the Mayhews went to the press room and met all the players and got lots of pictures with the players and autographs too. They were there until 12:30 am!

The next day we had received tickets to The Wiggles through the Children’s Cancer Center. The Wiggles are one of children’s favorite shows. Angela was able to convince the doctor that Adelaine was well enough to go to the Wiggles on Saturday night. Our tickets were for one of the other Luxury Suites. We and had a great time. The Mayhews had Brad Richards box, again, for the Wiggles and we spent most of our time in their box along with 3 other families. We had a great time. Bowen and Mason sang all the songs and Bowen did most of their dance moves. Adelaine still wasn’t feeling very good, but she had a few burst of energy where she was able to sit up wiggle in Mommy’s lap.

Adelaine got out of the hospital last night and slept in her bed. This morning when I woke up, Angela was in Adelaine’s bed. I guess it will take a couple days to break the comfort of having Mommy in bed to “Snuggle Buggy” with. At the hospital they sleep in bed together.

Our local CBS affiliate interviewed Adelaine and Angela and several other patients and their families shortly before they left the hospital for a segment on the 6 o’clock news. The “What We Are Thankful For” segment will also be posted on their website. We plan on posting the link here.

I hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving.

Remember GO Buccaneers!
